Aims and Context and Reflective Analysis A2 Creative Film Project- Gabbii & Will

Aims and Context
  • The film genre is social realism as the topic is very contemporary and needs awareness as its so close to home.
  • Short film
  • Target Audience - The film will be called 'Yes Officer' and will be targeted at a mainstream audience around the age of 15 and over.
  • I originally thought of the idea when i was approached by the Warwickshire police and the Bedworth Safer Neighbourhood team and asked me to do a reading of a poem about Domestic Violence. I thought of the idea to use this as stimulus for the creative film project and use the reading as a voice over for the film.
  • We will be variating between roles; Will, will be editing and I will be behind the camera, portraying mise en scene and directing the film.

Reflective Analysis

My Creative film Project is based around Domestic Violence awareness. I originally thought of the idea when i was approached by the Warwickshire police and the Bedworth Safer Neighbourhood team and asked me to do a reading of a poem about Domestic Violence. I thought of the idea to use this as stimulus for the creative film project and use the reading as a voice over for the film. We will be variating between roles; Will, will be editing and I will be behind the camera, portraying mise en scene and directing the film. The film will be called 'Yes Officer' and will be targeted at a mainstream audience around the age of 15 and over. This is because there are scenes used that could be seen as distressing and violent. The film genre is social realism as the topic is very contemporary and needs awareness as its so close to home. The film is based around a mother who is suffering from physical abuse by her boyfriend and the police get involved. She tries to show the happy moments and tell the police everything is ok but in reality behind closed doors he abuses her. This is shown through a montage of shots of her happy moments she is describing with her boyfriend cutting to closeups of her bruises and cuts as she is viewing herself in the mirror cutting to black as she turns her head as if he is coming. This was taken inspiration from the advertisement 'It Rarely Stops' (1) created by The National Domestic Violence Hotline. Which focuses upon the same topic of domestic violence. Within the genre of social realism the lighting is very dull we will try to reinforce this when filming the shots in the mirror showing the seriousness and sadness of the shots whilst adding to the realism.
We took our ideas and inspiration from the experimental film 'Meshes Of The Afternoon' by Maya Deren. However even though we took inspiration from an experimental film and aimed for it to be an experimental film i turned out to be more literal and could be used as an information film to raise awareness for domestic abuse. We aimed for our production to be apart of the social realism genre however the soundtrack used counteracts this as in real life a soundtrack doesn't follow a story.
